Feel like treating yourself or someone you really love to an outrageously nice gift? BMW and Alpina have a revised option for you: meet the updated 2016 BMW Alpina B5 Biturbo, an Alpina-ified M5 with more of pretty much everything.
As with most Alpina BMWs, the B5 starts life as a 2016 M5 and gets a whole suite of upgrades, such as a lofty power bump from the standard M5’s 560hp rating to 600hp with torque making a jump to 590 lb-ft as well, up from 500. Both figures happily outdo even the specialized versions of the M5 such as the Competition Package model and even the 30 Yahre edition, though the Alpina B5’s horsepower rating is the same as the 30 Yahre version with torque leading the way.
The extra oomph comes from a range of upgrades to the M5’s standard 4.4L twin-turbo V8. But interestingly, the Alpina B5 gets a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic in place of the M5’s seven-speed M-DCT dual-clutch box. Despite the changeover, 0-62 happens in just 4.2 seconds, making it about a tenth of a second faster than the standard M5 while an ECU recalibration changes the top speed from 155 MPH to 204 MPH.
The Alpina B5 Biturbo also benefits from a more aggressive suspension, body kit, and an upgraded interior to completee the package while a mechanical limited-slip differential by Drexler Motor Sport is added to boost handling.
Should you want a more practical option, the Alpina B5 Biturbo can also be had in wagon form. But sadly, you’d have to be in Europe to get that one.
Prices weren’t revealed just yet, though being a M5 and albeit, an Alpina version, it won’t be cheap.
