LeftLaneNews received the scoop on the BMW i8 Spyder in regards to its transition from concept form to production. And in this scoop, word via Germany media, Handelsblatt, is the version of the i8 with its head shaved off is imminently pending production status, after being originally introduced at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
As expected, the Spyder begins life as a revised i8, only to accommodate a roof with removable top panels, bringing the luxury and experience of an open-top sports coupe with added labor.

Previous rumors suggested the Spyder could come with a retractable soft top of some sort, but apparently these rumors are false since BMW’s current CEO, Harald Kruger, confirmed to German media of the production i8’s near-100% resemblance to the concept.
The BMW i8 Spyder Concept came into the world with the same setup as the production coupe, meaning a 1.5L TwinPower turbocharged three-cylinder tuned to produce 231hp, while assisting an electric motor at the front axle, providing an additional 131hp. Total output allowed the i8 Spyder to zip to 60 in just 4.4 seconds.
