Report: Volkswagen will indeed build the Budd-e Concept, should be here in four years

2016 Volkswagen Budd-e Concept

Not too long ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Volkswagen revealed the latest rendition and interpretation of a modern Microbus, the Budd-e Concept.

Now, according to Car Magazine, Volkswagen will indeed move it into the production phase as reception was positive enough for it. It’s also part of Volkswagen’s latest plan to increase its offering of alternatively propelled options to its customers.

The goal is to have the production Budd-e ready by 2020, employing the company’s latest Modular Electric Platform, or MEB. That platform is specifically being designed and engineered to accomodate other setups such as plug-in hybrid and other full-EV models, such as the rumored Audi A2 e-tron EV.

Volkswagen didn’t tell Car what kind of EV powertrain to expect in the Budd-e, but they did share it’ll have at a battery with at a capacity of at least 101kWh with an electric motor at each axle. So it will have simulated all-wheel drive, from the sounds of it.

Top speed is expected to be around 93 MPH with a range of 373 miles.
