Volkswagen’s developed a reputation for showing up at the world’s largest Golf gathering and convention, the annual Worthersee Festival, typically with a one-off concept, just to woo the hearts of its key ownership base.
This year, it’s apparently a new lightweight production version of the Golf GTI, called the Clubsport.
A supposed “high-ranking official” spoke to AutoCar, disclosing that the Clubsport due at Worthersee is just a lightweight version of the GTI to improve handling performance.
Specifics weren’t spared, but rumors suggest the rear seat was removed while the car in general has less sound deadening.
The 2.0L TFSI turbo four-banger will be modified too to produce more grunt, about 296hp and 280 lb-ft of twist for a 0-62 time of just 5.7 seconds. That’s quite a bit more power than the standard model’s 220hp and 258 lb-ft of twist.
