Lamborghini tends to surprise the world at major auto shows with some special and unique models, and this year is no different.
For this year’s celebration, the Italian hypercar maker brings us the Centenario, a bespoke model based off of the Aventador that gets some special kit and aesthetics to blow your mind.
So what is the Centenario, besides an Aventador chassis with a wicked carbon fiber body?
Think of it as a super lightweight and crazier version of the SV model, built specifically to pay tribute to the company’s founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, who was born 100 years ago. It goes on a massive diet to bring the curb weight figure down to 3,351lbs, which is not much for the 6.5L V12’s mill to handle.
Speaking of which, the Aventador’s V12 is reworked to churn out 770hp to result in a 0-62 time of just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of more than 217 MPH. The Centenario also benefits from a lot of engineering tweaks. For instance, the steering system has been mounted at the rear while the body itself improves aerodynamics greatly for stability and grip at speed.
For the toy chest, the Centenario also gets a special on-board telemetry and computer system, providing the driver with the opportunity to record his or her lap as well as all of the necessary data needed to compare figures at the next yacht outing.
All of this as you’d expect doesn’t come cheap. And it won’t be plentiful–only 40 units total will be made, 20 of which will be hardtops and the other 20 will be roadsters.
That price? Starting at a cool $1.9 million a pop.
