Mercedes-Benz and BMW competing with each other like children over toys is nothing new. Actually, it’s quite fun and has led to many introductions to some of the most legendary automobiles and tales known to man.
That said, it’s no surprise that BMW openly expressed their discomfort over the fact that Mercedes-Maybach exists to produce the super-glorified versions of the S-Class for those who like to be chauffeured around. This can only mean one thing–BMW told AutomotiveNews that they want to make their own line of cars similar to Mercedes-Maybach.
The word came from BMW’s head of development, Klaus Froehlich, who shared the new model will cost $170,000 and more, depending on how it’s built and optioned. But technical information was withheld.
A lot is mixed in the rumor mill involving BMW and their interest to move upmarket as a more luxurious automaker. So it’s not known whether the new model will be built on the existing 7-Series or on its own platform.
Either way, BMW turned 100 this year and there some exciting things bound to happen in the coming months.
