Mercedes-Benz weren’t joking when they said they were going to pretty make crossovers versions of every model they make, or at least, other variations to crossover they already make.
Alas, we come to the new GLC Coupe, which was just teased by the Silver Arrow as one of their latest debuts scheduled for the 2016 New York Auto Show next week.
As expected, the GLC Coupe will basically be an entry-level model to Merc’s line of “four-door coupe crossovers.” It’s pretty much the same line of stylized and less practical, and more expensive crossovers as BMW’s X4 and X6 models. Another way to look at the GLC is it’s the mini-me version of the GLE Coupe, Mercedes’ direct competitor to the BMW X6.
So that said, the GLC is naturally the BMW X4’s direct competitor from Stuttgart.
Based on the C-Class sedan, the new GLC Coupe will likely come with a similar line of engines and transmission combinations as the C-Class, meaning a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline four with 241hp and 273 lb-ft of twist to boot, mated to Benz’s latest 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic.
Those wanting more oomph, or a lot more oomph, will have to dolly up for the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe, which should get the latest and greatest 3.0L twin-turbocharged V6 as the new E43 AMG and C43 AMG.
