Some news of Audi expanding its sports car lineup have been lingering, ranging from a possible baby-R8, to various versions of the latest model not previously made available.
Now, AutoBild supposedly received a tip suggesting Audi could be developing a new mid-level mid-engined sports car to sit in between the Audi TT and the Audi R8. Word is the car could be based on the Porsche Boxster and will be apart of Audi’s plan to expand their “R-Family” of sports cars.
But unlike the Boxster, the Audi version will have all-wheel drive, like it’s larger R8 brethren.
Power is beyond speculation at this point, but some are saying a new version of Audi’s 2.5L turbocharged five-banger would be the mill of choice. In its last concept form in the quattro concept, that engine produced 408hp and 354 lb-ft of twist.
