Report: The Porsche Panamera wagon gets the green light and will come to the US

Some spy photos of what appeared to be a long-roof version of the Porsche Panamera surfaced a little while back, stirring rumors and speculation that Porsche was going to produce a wagon version of its polarizing Panamera.

Well, it appears those rumors and speculation were true as the Panamera wagon was just given the green light for production.

The report hails in from AutomotiveNews, who received the word from Porsche Cars North America’s CEO, Klaus Zellmer.

“We have to have some patience for [the wagon] to arrive in the U.S.,” Zellmer told AN. “But we are confident that this car will be well received here, despite the fact that this country doesn’t really like hatchbacks or wagons.”

The new Panamera is said to be getting an all-new platform and thus, this wagon variant should be built off of the same chassis as the second generation Panamera, naturally. This also means the same engine options as the sedan will be available for the wagon. Design wise, the car will strongly resemble the Sport Turismo Concept.

The next-generation Porsche Panamera will debut at the Paris Motor Show later in September of this year with the sedan going on sale sometime in 2017. The wagon will follow a year later.
