Volkswagen’s Amarok pickup truck has been around for quite some time in global markets, other than North America, competing in the segment against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navarra, and so-on.
That said, it’s always been a forbidden fruit for us Americans, the inventors of the pickup truck, which is a bit ironic if I must say. But despite Dieselgate happening at the moment, that hasn’t stopped us from drooling over Volkswagen’s pickup and wishing Wolfsburg would send its utilitarian light truck to our shores, especially in diesel form.
Lately, Volkswagen announced to be introducing a newly revised 3.0L V6 turbodiesel that can be had in three forms, with figures topping out at 163hp, 204hp and 224hp. Torque figures will also vary, but in its most powerful form, it’ll produce 406 lb-ft of twist. All of these figures out do the Amarok’s previous twin-turbo 2.0L diesel with its 180hp.
In addition to the new engine, the 2016 Amarok will be available in rear-wheel drive form with 4MOTION four-wheel drive as optional. A manual is also standard with six forward gears, while full-time 4MOTION is also available as the most expensive proposition. The full-time system comes with a Torsen diff and an eight-speed automatic.
Other engineering changes amount to a new steering system for them Europeaners and their tight streets.
The newly updated 2016 Volkswagen Amarok will be available at the end of this September with more configurations and drivetrains surfacing down the line as well.
Hey Volkswagen, are we ever going to get it?
