Recalls: Takata could be expanding its airbag recall by quite a lot

Takata is still under heavy scrutiny for its recent recall of airbag units for faulty actuators, leading to flying pieces of shrapnel and metal into the driver like frag grenade into the face, instead of just being a shocking white balloon.

This has resulted in a few deaths and as a result, Takata issued a massive recall of its units, which is massive simply because of how many airbags have been supplied to various automakers and for what specific model of vehicle. The last figure of Takata airbag recalls hovered at around 28.8 million needing recall.

Now, an additional 35 million airbags–yes, an additional 35 million–are being added to the list and Takata is expecting to make its official announcement soon.

So far, estimates point to around $25.2 billion in damages from 287.5 million airbags needing to be recalled.

That’s a lot of friggen airbags.
