The Europeans are on a strong offensive to do their socially responsible part of being conscientious of the environment. As of recent, we’ve heard of some pretty big plans to shake up the use of gas- and diesel-powered automobiles, like in France where Paris vowed to ban cars older than 1997 in hopes to reduce traffic and smog.
Norway on the other hand wants to go a little further by banning petrochemical-powered cars altogether, including hybrids, with the goal to only allow the sale of EVs and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.
A new report from Norway’s Dagens Næringsliv states that the country’s four primary political parties reached an agreement recently after long disputes and arbitration to only allow the sale of electric and hydrogen-powered fuel-cell vehicles to make Norway one of the most environmentally friendly countries in the world.
It might seem a bit extreme, however, Norway hosts some of the highest sales of electric vehicles in the world with around 24 percent of total new car sales consisting of EVs. The plan is to ban all gas- and diesel-powered cars by 2025.
Norway’s initiative also caught the attention of Tesla Motors’ Elon Musk, naturally, as this means Norway’s market is likely to become very valued, should this ban get enacted. Musk posted a picture of the outlet’s front page when the story initially ran, which you can check out below.
