Video: Kia to inject more soul into the Soul with turbo power, teased in latest advert

The Kia Soul has always been a fun, quickly little compact crossover for the masses. It’s a helluva lot cooler looking than the funky juke for sure, and isn’t as vanilla as the new Honda HR-V. But now, it might get a little more punch from turbo hamster power, which was actually teased in a recent TV advert for the Soul, if you were paying attention to any recent series of commercials during your favorite primetime.

The Kia Soul currently comes with the choice of two naturally-aspirated, and somewhat wheezy, inline-fours, in 1.6L 130hp form and the 2.0L with 164hp. Now, the Soul could benefit from the latest 1.6L turbocharged four in the Kia Forte5 hatchback, as well as the Forte Koup, good for around 201hp and 195 lb-ft of twist.

The Soul Turbo would be pitched as a sportier variant of the small crossover, meaning it could also get the choice of a six-speed manual or  automatic, both of which are available on the aforementioned Fortes as well.

Should anything happen, a due date sometime later this year for the 2017 model, which is when the Soul is also expected to be facelifted.
