Some sad news is hailing in from the Nürburgring over in Germany where crashes happen all the time. Although crashes occur on the regular there, leading to many sad and frowned, but albeit lucky faces of surviving crash victims, this one isn’t so lucky.
Sure, no humans were lost in this crash, but the loss being highlighted is rather one involving a unique…uh…One:1. That would be the Koenigsegg One:1, Koenigsegg’s most expensive, most powerful car ever.
Details are a little bit sparse, but multiple outlets say the crash happened at the Adenauer Forst section of the infamous “Green Hell.”
Several freelance automotive photographers, who were witnesses, said the One:1 that crashed happened when the driver piloting it entered a corner with too much speed. This led to the brakes being slammed and the car eventually careened off the track, through a barrier and into an embankment.
The Koenigsegg One:1 isn’t known to be the friendliest handling car as a development test mule crashed in 2014 on the ‘Ring.
But what adds insult to injury for this specific crash is that this was one of seven One:1’s in total existence. Each one sold for about 2.8 million euros, or $3.1 million US at the time, meaning this could be the most expensive crash to have ever happened at the Nürburgring.
Koenigsegg was supposedly using this specific One:1 to prepare for a ‘Ring lap record attempt, though Koenigsegg themselves said they haven’t decided which car they’ll officially use for the attempt, leaving the chance that they could use the Agera RS for this task.
