BMW’s prepping two new concepts for Pebble Beach this year

BMW officially announced to be getting some stage time at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with two new concepts to celebrate BMW of North America’s 40th anniversary. And with it, they supplied a digital rendering of a steering wheel.

Speculation suggests it could be a preliminary preview to the hotly anticipated M2 as well as a new M4 GTS, which are rumored to be ready for production by the end of this year.

The M2 is expected to fulfill the role as a successor to the original 1-Series M Coupe, complete with the same 3.0L turbocharged inline-six as the M3 and M4, though tuned to produce around 365hp and 343 lb-ft of torque and an overboost function that can bump that to 369 lb-ft. Power will be channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT for a 0-62 time of just 4.5 seconds.

The M4 GTS is expected to be a harder-edged version of the standard M4 with less weight (approximately 220lbs less), a rear-bench delete, and an optional roll-cage. This is obviously the seriously track-focused version of the M4, where turn signals aren’t required. It’s guessed that the M4 GTS will also sport the same water-injection system that debuted in the M4 MotoGP Safety Car, along with the same TwinPower Turbo 3.0L inline-six as the M4, though tuned to produce almost 500hp. Expect a limited production run with only a few color options.

Either way, the two new concepts will be revealed at the Pebble Beach show on August 13.
