Report: Volkswagen halts production of the Passat TDI for the US

2016 Volkswagen Passat

In case you’ve been living under a rock over the past couple months, Volkswagen’s in some deep doo-doo with the law over cheating on emissions testing for its new diesel models.

That said, Volkswagen is currently under a lot of scrutiny, including all of the diesel-powered vehicles made under the corporation’s various portfolios, ranging from TDI-powered Audis, to diesel Porsches.

Now, Volkswagen of America is said to have ceased production of the Passat TDI, following a stop-sale on all US-spec TDI cars, after they were found to have been affected by the emissions cheat software used to manipulate the EPA’s emissions tests.

According to AutomotiveNews, Volkswagen repealed their application for an EPA certification on 2016 2.0L TDI-powered models because the engines are still being investigated and fixed. It’s currently not known when Volkswagen will resume selling TDI-powered models in the US.

It’s also important to note that our Volkswagen Passat is still the seventh generation model, as Europe is well into adopting the all-new eighth-generation car.
