2016 New York Preview: Toyota’s cute ute, formerly Scion’s, the C-HR, to arrive in NYC as a concept

2016 Toyota C-HR European Spec

Toyota’s been known to be hopping on the sub-compact cute-ute crossover bandwagon to compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke, Kia Soul, Honda HR-V, and what not.

Their front-runner would be the C-HR, which first debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2015, it then came to the 2015 Los Angeles International Auto Show as the Scion C-HR Concept. But we all know Scion has been sentenced to death, so it’ll come to the US as the Toyota C-HR, like the rest of the world gets.

However, the rest of the world gets the production C-HR way before we do as ours won’t come until next spring.

Initially debuted at the Geneva Auto Show this past year in production form, the C-HR for the US will first show itself at the New York Auto Show in concept form only, according to a recent company announcement.

The C-HR also showcases the company’s new TNGA global platform that boasts improved lower center of gravities for its future models, increased body rigidity and better flexibility. But not much else is known.

Motivation should be supplied by a new four-cylinder with the choice of front or all-wheel drive. The Europeaners get a new 1.2L turbocharged gasoline four with 115hp and a manual transmission or CVT, while a larger 2.0L naturally-aspirated gasoline four is available and a hybridized 1.8L will be produced as well.
